A firm born from research
Protected Pathways Consultants, LLC was established directly from Dr. Covarrubias's doctoral dissertation, A Call for Protection and Planning: A Case Study of Vulnerable Populations and School Shootings. His research examined how schools prepare — and too often fail to prepare — for the worst, with particular attention to the students and communities most at risk.
The conclusion that drives the firm's work: real protection starts long before a crisis. It lives in relationships between adults and students, in planning that is specific and practiced, and in leadership that treats safety as a culture rather than a checklist.
Through individualized, relationship-based practices, Dr. Covarrubias supports students, educators, and school leaders — and partners with organizations beyond education, including The Salvation Army, to strengthen protection for vulnerable populations wherever they are served.
